We are seeking a meticulous and motivated Controller / Accountant to handle our financial operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, general ledger entries, taxes, and the generation of monthly accounting reports. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to identifying and correcting errors, and the ability to produce precise financial reports for management.
While this is a high-level position, we are seeking a candidate who is equally comfortable with hands-on responsibilities, such as data entry, reconciling, and reporting. If you are seeking a role focused solely on oversight or management, this may not be the right fit for you.
Accounts Payable: Ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, adherence to approval protocols, and effective communication with vendors.
Accounts Receivable: Handle accounts receivable functions, including invoicing, cash application, and resolution of client inquiries, while ensuring prompt collection of outstanding balances.
General Ledger Maintenance: Prepare and post journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded in compliance with US GAAP.
Reconciliation: Conduct regular reconciliations of bank statements, accounts, and financial data to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Financial Reporting: Generate accurate and timely monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules, providing insights into the company's financial health.
Error Identification and Correction: Develop and utilize reporting tools to detect discrepancies or errors, implementing corrective actions prior to management review.
Process Improvement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance financial systems, processes, and internal controls, driving operational efficiency and scalability.
Compliance and Audit Support: Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations; assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and insights.
Tax Preparation: Prepare and manage tax documentation for both South Africa and the United States, ensuring compliance with local and international tax laws.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA(US) / CA(SA) or CMA certification is highly preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years working with US-based employer(s). Experience within an MSP or IT services environment is advantageous.
Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of US GAAP, expertise in QuickBooks desktop and online (QuickBooks Certifications advantageous and preferred), and advanced Excel skills.
